Mount Oberon

Back to Wilsons Prom near Philip Island - Victoria this weekend booked a lovely shack instead of camping which was sheer luxury. Great place and it was pretty quiet.

It was so nice in fact that the Australian goverment and immigration department granted me a visa extension to celebrate

Wee update and some pics

Had a quick visit up to Canberra to catch up with some folk for a few days , spent a day touring various vineyards sampling some fantastic and some not so great wines- (still can't bring myself to accept riesling no matter how nice ) and then rather randomly decided to drive up to Sydney to clear the hangovers and do the tourist thing seeing as it was ahem nearby!.
Stayed in a rather nice hotel in Sydney then had a long drive back to Melbourne of over 1000kms in 10 hours the little 1.0 Diahatsu Charade coped effortlessly :-)
Stopped off at Holbrook on the way back to visit the big submarine (HMS Otway) and a fantastic late night bakery. The sight of a sinister jet black 100m Sub sitting 700 odd kilometres inland without a drop of water in sight was rather surreal. but has quite an interesting history.
Seeing as it was a long drive back I did some experimenting with the camera in the car, using long exposure times and a tripod with some variable results, mostly akin to an early Orbital or FSOL album cover :-)
Back in Melbourne now and starting to think about returning to NZ or travelling further whilst i am in Oz - decisions decisions. Cheers G

Cheerio Tom

Alas Tom Weir has passed away at the grand old age of 91. For those who don't know who he was you probably didn't grow up in Scotland watching him scrambling across the Scottish Mountains slightly tipsy judging by his red nose anyway- speaking to local characters in his trademark bobbly hat in the local tv programme "Weirs Way".A loss as an ambassador for Scotland and the outdoor life.
